Inspiration
We built PicoPet because we crave companionship and sustainable tweets.
What it does
PicoPet is a pair of virtual frogs that you can interact with. Watch your adorable amphibious friends drive a car, listen to music, and read tweets on their phone.
How we built it
PicoPet is a React app built with Javascript, CSS, and HTML. We also used python and Twython to scrape tweets.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with integrating the tweet streaming directly into our React app. Our solution was to run the tweet scraping in python and save to a json file. We also struggled with how we wanted to use our assets. Our first attempt used animations and an SVG file, but for the sake of time we went back to using PNG files.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the functionality of our app. We aimed at creating a cute virtual pet that you could interact with, which we did!
What we learned
We strengthened our React skills and learned how to scrape Tweets.
What's next for PicoPet
I heard the frogs are looking at buying a time share in Palm Desert.
