Inspiration
Picnics are a common event amoung friends and family . We wanted an easy way to schedule picnics around the city and meet new people. Picnics a
What it does
Users can choose a picnic theme, location, and which food items they would like to bring. They can RSVP for a picnic event.
How we built it
We used a public dataset from https://opendataphilly.org/. We used Java to program what the app will do when certain buttons are clicked. We used Android Studio to build the actual app and UI design and connect Google Maps for directions to the picnic location selected.
Challenges we ran into
It was very difficult to figure out Android Studio since none of us have ever used it before, let alone build any sort of app. Things that we thought would be simple, like creating buttons, ended up being very complicated.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are all beginners to app development, and some of us are even beginners to coding in Java in general. We all learned so much about app development and Android studio and Java. We are proud of everything that each of us learned and everything that we were able to teach each other.
What we learned
We learned how to used Android Studio and what it takes to build an Android app.
What's next for Picnicdelphia
Since Android Studio took very long to figure out, we were unable to add our other Java code into the app so that clicking buttons does a certain function. In the future, we will add this code to our app, fix the UI design so that it's more visually appealing to users, add more buttons so that there's more options for picnic themes, and upload the dataset of locations so that there are more location options on the app.
