Inspiration
Buying from farmer’s markets and local farms have become a sustainable way to buy farm-to-table products straight from the source. Farmer’s markets however, poses several problems such as being open only a couple of times a week or year, and farms being far away from urban cities. Meanwhile, 23 million Americans live in food deserts and do not have access to farms, farmer’s markets, or zero-waste stores that eliminates all packaging from their stores.
What it does
Picnic is a farmer’s market-to-table delivery app dedicated to delivering farmer’s market and zero waste products to your home. Currently there are three user flows
How we built it
Picnic was build entirely through Figma. I did secondary research to get a grasp on farmer's markets, farms, and zero-waste stores in terms of how they do logistics and what customers were buying them. I then did user research and discovered that both users felt that they did not have time to go find a farm, go out to it, purchase their products, then drive back home on their busy schedules. I then created my persona Luke out of those findings.
I then went into the ideation phase doing information architecture on my research, completing user flow statements, user flow diagrams, and a sitemap to get a feel for the application and how it would flow. Then I went into the design process creating responsive UI from my research, then I finally finished with the working prototype.
Challenges we ran into
Not being able to do user testing at the end of the hackathon due to time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I have completed most of the UX process within a day and a half. Creating a prototype from nothing and having a fully working professional looking prototype.
What we learned
I've learned that preparing for a hackathon like reading books about sprints, and learning how to properly set-up a Figma file makes it easier to focus on the harder parts of the UX process such as user testing.
What's next for Picnic
Picnic will go through another design iteration adding two more user flows such as buying from zero-waste stores, and the delivery process from the customer's side.
