Inspiration
Inspired by pickup sports and a desire to have an easy interface to see where games may be.
What it does
Allows people to start 'events' on a map which will be visible to the other users of the app. The other users can then join the 'lobby' of the first users event, showing the other users that two people are currently at the event
How I built it
Built with android studio in Java. Frontend uses the convenient integration that google maps has with android for a graphical display for clients while the server uses the Radar.io API to manage geofences and events.
Challenges I ran into
Using the server and connecting the app to a central source of information proved to be very difficult, especially when considering having to learn to use a new API at the same time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Using Google Maps API to represent our data
- Using radar.io to manage events in the backend
What I learned
- How difficult it is to create a server for our specific purposes
- Importance of testing and doing it as you go
- Importance of slowly connecting the front and back end instead of doing it only when both are complete ## What's next for PickUp Billion dollars.
