Inspiration
PickMe came from a real commuting problem. My teammate Laiba and I realized that even when our routes didn't perfectly overlap, we could still carpool. However, we couldn't find a single platform to easily connect people with similar routes and schedules, which inspired us to build one.
What it does
PickMe connects people traveling along similar routes and schedules so they can find potential carpool partners, share rides, and reduce commuting costs.
How we built it
We developed PickMe as a rapid prototype during the RevenueCat hackathon, working remotely as a team. With only seven days, we focused on defining the core workflow and implementing the most important features needed for a functional app.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenges were the seven-day deadline, remote coordination, and late finalization of the app workflow. The complete workflow was only finalized three days before submission, leaving limited time for development and polishing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the limited time, we managed to turn an idea into a working carpooling application within seven days. We are especially proud that we kept experimenting and adapting instead of getting stuck in the planning stage.
What we learned
We learned that experimentation goes a long way. It is easy to spend too much time researching and planning, but building and testing early can help overcome those limitations and reveal what actually works.
What's next for PickMe
We would like to further develop PickMe by improving its user experience, matching system, reliability, and overall feature set, turning the prototype into a more complete and polished carpooling platform.
