Inspiration
Many students love to explore Boston, but there are often many dangers, especially late at night. Thus, we built this project to help those who want to avoid bad situations and enjoy themselves without worrying.
What it does
Visualizes crime rates on a heat map of Boston.
How we built it
We used Python to scrape crime data and pushed it to our database. Then, we used React to visualize the data and provide some interactivity.
Challenges we ran into
Unfamiliarity with libraries led to features that could not be implemented, such as polylines and modals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to get a map and heatmap of crime rates.
What we learned
Working with others, frontend and backend development
What's next for Pick-Your-Path
We want to rework our frontend to contain features including polylines to visualize routes and information about specific areas in Boston
