Inspiration
We were inspired Ottawa's passion for outdoor sports and the great parks that Ottawa has to offer.
What it does
Pick-Up N' Play is a responsive website that lets users organize pick-up games around various locations in Ottawa. It makes use of three data-sets, Sports Fields, Basketball Courts and Outdoor Rinks. Users can sign up through the website, Facebook, or Twitter. They can create pick-up games and other users can join them.
How I built it
After settling on an idea we quickly built a mock-up so we would now how it should look and what information was needed. The website was built locally using PHP and Bootstrap and jQuery. We're hosting the site through DigitalOcean. We used the Google static map API for the map images.
Challenges I ran into
Because we were very excited about our idea I found we took on too much work. It was also a bit of a challenge to work with people I had never worked with before. We had very little time to learn where each others' strengths and weaknesses lie.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm very proud that I was able to complete all of my work in the short amount of time given.
What I learned
I learned that work needs to be distributed more evenly so that the most important part is not given entirely to one person. I also learned that communication needs to happen often and efficiently.
