Inspiration:
While at the Bootcamp I tried making a world where players could pick up trash and sort it to earn money but could not get it to work while there.
What it does:
So let's say a player has to bring a diamond to a block to make a chest appear; this device allows them to do so and even allows easy customization from the creators who use it.
How we built it:
Mainly a lot of GenAI to help guide me through typescript as I had never used it before. As well as using gizmos available to me to link it all together, explain how to use it.
Challenges we ran into:
Getting the trigger zone to not only just wait for a specific tag to enter it, but making it customizable with options. Typescript is neat, but so new to me I had no idea what I was doing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
Finally making it work haha, making the chest and the text appear when a player has the diamond in the zone, or even drops it within the zone. As well as having the text and chest disappear when the diamond leaves the zone.
What we learned:
A great deal of information for sure; the typescript itself (though I still am having to learn it further) and all the workings of this editor itself from creating assets or finding assets, to making specific tags for objects.
What's next for Pick up & Drop Device:
Find tuning for sure, figuring out how to make things animate when the device is triggered and so on.
