Inspiration 🤩

I thought it would be nice to have a space that had ~good vibes~ to help you destress or lift you up when you weren't feeling your best. I know I definitely have my off days, and I wanted to share some ways I lift myself up!

What it does ❓

The site provides resources that can provide quick fixes to bad days and can help improve your mood. Some ways it does this includes providing playlists based on how a user feels, providing short videos daily, providing a space for users to track their favorite memories, and recommending ways for a user to feel better if they're not at their best.

How I built it ⚙️

I built it through a glitch.me project. It stores data through SQLite, is styled and structured through HTML and CSS, and uses Cheerio, a Node.js framework to scrape data from external websites. The code can be accessed here: https://glitch.com/edit/#!/pick-me-up?path=public%2Fstyle.css%3A169%3A14

Challenges I ran into 😳

Since this is one of my first times working with Node.js, I'm currently struggling with trying to web scrape content from a website through cheerio, a Node.js library. I also struggled on settling on design elements and finding a way to keep the page uniform.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of 🥳

I started my project pretty late; I didn't expect to participate in this hackathon. I'm surprised I finished and also got to learn some news things, and am proud of the design I came up with in such a short timeframe!

What I learned 💡

I learned a little bit about how to use SQLite and Node.js, but definitely still need some practice and familiarity with it. I learned how to manipulate data through DOM within embedded content, and how to change site data based on real time through JavaScript timing events.

What's next for Pick Me Up!

I want to add more ways the site can be personalized based on who's using it, and maybe add a couple of resources that take content from external sites. I also plan on allowing users to make accounts for the site.
