Inspiration
Our inspiration is Hillary the Hustler, an ambitious recent graduate who wants to do more than her 9-to-5 allows. She's driven to boost her income, gain new skills, and grow her professional network, but finds existing platforms are either too formal for side projects or too isolating and transactional. We built Pick A Side as the solution for her: a single, integrated platform where she can find flexible work that fits her busy lifestyle while connecting with a community of peers, turning a simple side gig into a genuine opportunity for growth.
What it does
Pick a side is a web platform designed for the modern side hustle. It is a double-ended hustle finder which blends job searching with professional community building. On our site, users can both publish and apply for hustles, making it an excellent networking platform.
How we built it
We used NextJS with Supabase framework. Thanks to it, we have a strongly linked Frontend and Database. And from there we implement the stack around Supabase.
Challenges we ran into
All of us are freshmans, and this is all our first ever hackathon. Hence, we don't have much experience with hackathons. We struggle to communicate our ideas, in fact, Pick A Side is our 3rd idea. We don't have much experience coding or building applications.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The web actually works :DD
What we learned
We should have more preparation in advance. Personally, I should've discuss our ideas earlier and we a lot more to learn until we can actually compete to win. I glad that I've signed up for this hackathon.
What's next for Pick A Side
Scalabilty: As our userbase grows, we could grow a massive community. The bigger the community, the more oppertunities for people to find their desired hustles.
