Inspiration

We are delighted to present Picassolution, a creation born directly from the essence of the "Art + Tech" hackathon theme. Our team's inspiration was kindled by a sincere passion for museums and creativity-fueled video games. Specifically designed for the 7 to 13 age range, we seamlessly meld captivating visuals with intriguing word puzzles, offering users an exceptional and enjoyable opportunity to refine their grammar skills while fostering their imagination to enhance their creative thinking skills.

What it does

Picassolution brings to life a dynamic concept where randomly generated images challenge users to accurately deduce the corresponding keywords for each image's caption. Even if their initial input isn't entirely correct, users can still earn partial points by aligning their submitted characters. Much like the classic game "hangman," these correct characters are revealed, adding to the intrigue. Additionally, our current features encompass the ability to skip photos, exit the game, and personalize the experience by entering their usernames.

How we built it

Picassolution came to fruition through a dynamic collaborative effort, centering on GitHub as our chosen platform. We harmoniously blended various programming languages and software tools to weave its intricate fabric.

For the frontend, we harnessed the creative potential of Figma, HTML, CSS, and the Adobe Suite. This medley of tools allowed us to fashion a user interface that resonates with children while drawing inspiration from the artistic essence of Pablo Picasso. By integrating traditional marketing strategies, we ensured that our interface is not only engaging but also compelling to our target audience.

On the backend, our toolkit encompassed JavaScript. This amalgamation of technologies facilitated the creation of image generation mechanisms, precise keyword matching systems, and seamless user interactions. This dynamic synergy serves as the bedrock, solidifying the foundation of Picassolution and exemplifying its proof of concept.

Challenges we ran into

Developing Picassolution posed unique challenges, given it was the first time most of us collaborated on a fully functional application. Navigating tools like Git and diving into JavaScript's interactive frontend realm was an exhilarating learning curve. We aligned skills and communication to maintain seamless teamwork, overcoming complexities as they arose. With every adjustment, code issues emerged, prompting us to rebuild or innovate solutions. Striking a balance between conveying a functional prototype and realizing our vision within realistic time constraints presented challenges. Yet, these hurdles refined our collaboration, enhanced our skills, and shaped Picassolution into its impressive form today.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team's sense of accomplishment runs deep, especially regarding the seamless integration of features and the tailored UX/UI concept design crafted for our target audience. We've introduced the ability to gracefully conclude a user's gameplay session and innovatively integrated a mechanism that prompts rewriting the complete word for successive guesses. These achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to forging an immersive and user-friendly experience, designed with the utmost care for our young audience.

What we learned

The journey of creating Picassolution imparted a vital lesson in harmonizing entertainment with education. We gained invaluable insights into intricately calibrating randomness to offer both captivating and enriching gameplay. Collaborating on this project amplified our problem-solving skills, fostering a reciprocal learning environment among our team members.

What's next for Picassolution

Our vision for Picassolution is one of continuous expansion, with a host of captivating features on the horizon. Our immediate plans involve introducing multiplayer functionality, enabling users to share URL links and collaborate with friends on their inputs. Additionally, we're excited to introduce a "bomb" feature, randomly revealing missing letters for added excitement.

A novel concept we're working on is a virtual shop, allowing users to utilize earned points as in-game coins. With these, they can purchase a variety of in-game items, such as bombs, help requests, decorative nametags, picture frames, backgrounds, and hearts. This not only adds an exciting layer of customization but also accelerates gameplay termination, as we concurrently introduce features to enhance the game's longevity.

Intriguingly, we're considering implementing a leaderboard to gauge the popularity and difficulty of different images. This data will inform our rotation strategy, ensuring a balanced and engaging experience for players. The road ahead for Picassolution is brimming with innovation and enhancement, and we're thrilled to continue refining and expanding the project.
