Inspiration
We are college students who often find ourselves very hungry. However, picking food can be a challenge for lazy students. Thinking about which category may sometimes be too much work. I personally usually find it easier by looking at different types of food and deciding from there what to eat. We built this app to do just that.
What it does
Our app first gives the user an option between different cuisines such as Thai, American, or Indian. We even have a separate category for smaller items such as ice-cream and coffee. After the user selects the cuisine, they are then presented with pictures of restaurants near by that fit the cuisine chosen. The user can then select what food looks the best, and when the click on the picture it redirects the page to the restaurant's yelp page.
How I built it
We used yelp's business api to retrieve the picture and the business' yelp url.
Challenges I ran into
The responses from yelp takes some time so we created a loading page that makes it look more aesthetically pleasing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Being able to take in the browser's coordinates to give the user recommendations not matter where they are.
What's next?
We want to optimize our site making it faster, and also making it faster on mobile platforms.
