Physics shapes our reality and lets us understand the universe from the smallest subatomic particles to the movement of planets. Yet, how we are taught Physics in school is just black words on pieces of paper. It is almost like teaching someone how to swim on land!

How can a concept that explains how the world around us be taught in a highly theoretical manner and not in a visual way? We want to bring Physics to life and let students see and visualise the concepts in a 3D interactive manner to help them better appreciate the applications and usefulness of Physics in the real world.

What it does

PhysicsVR v2 brings Physics concepts and questions from words and theory into an interactive 3D game.

How we built it

This prototype is an improvement over a previous hackathon project, which consisted of PowerPoint slides, Unreal Engine VR models and a hand-made VR headset modeled after the Google Cardboard.

We improved our design for this hackathon through the addition of VR live streaming to the Android phone in the headset, a head motion tracking mechanism to match the user's head motions to changes in the direction of their line of sight, the user interface of the smartphone app, the ability for the user to interact with the 3D VR models and a remote hand controller.

What's next for PhysicsVR v2

  • Creating more content that follows educational syllabus for our VR program for students to understand more Physics concepts better
  • Making the UI more user-friendly and engaging
  • Incorporate natural language processing for concept and question identification
  • Expand to more subjects such as Chemistry and Mathematics
  • Transforming our environment into a classroom - Augmented Reality (AR)
  • Localised curriculums for different countries
