Photo Library Health Check

Inspiration

UGREEN owners keep reporting the same fear: the Photos app shows nothing for whole months, or a folder never appears, although the files are on the disk. They cannot tell whether their family photos are lost, not imported, or simply not indexed — and they start to lose faith in the NAS.

What it does

Photo Library Health Check is a read-only audit. It compares, folder by folder and then month by month, the media files stored on the NAS with what the Photos app knows, checks a sample of affected files one by one (indexed, capture date, location, orientation), and returns a plain report with the official fix for each type of finding. Example verdict: Gaps found: 2 folders, 1,240 files on disk not shown in Photos; March to June 2025 looks empty.

How we built it

A Markdown orchestration Skill following the Uliya Skill Development Standard, built with the official Uliya Skill Kit 0.7.3. Three expert agents are used through delegate only: photo-agent (health, albums, totals, monthly timeline, metadata, VLM orientation check), file-agent (month-by-month media counts on disk, sample paths, optional tag) and knowledge-agent (official fixes, optional report note). Every number comes from a real returned result; all five delegation states are handled. It passes the official checker (static-pass, zero warnings). Claude (Anthropic) was used through Claude Code to draft and check the files; the workflow was designed, reviewed and validated by the author.

Challenges

Disk files carry modification dates while Photos uses capture dates, so folder results are authoritative and monthly results indicative. Large folders can hit listing limits: counts are taken one month at a time, and any count that still hits a limit is marked incomplete — never estimated.

What we learned

On a NAS, the most useful AI answer is often not a new album but evidence: what is there, what is shown, and what the user can do about the difference.

What's next

Round 2: tune the Skill to real result formats on the NAS, and verify count accuracy on large libraries and the date used by file searches.
