Inspiration

We wanted to create an app that would be fun and incentivize people to make more health conscious decisions about their meals. We discussed about app designs we liked and were inspired by apps like BeReal, Snapchat, Instagram, and Locket. We incorporated design decisions from each of these apps into our app to create an engaging and fun app for friends to use with each other.

What it does

After signing in, Phoreal takes you to the camera page where you can snap a picture of the meal you are eating. After posting your meal, you are able to see your post alongside your friends' posts on the friends page. When you tap on a post, it shows the calories and macros for that meal. Then, when you navigate to the user page, you are able to see a graph of your calories consumed over a period of time and your past meals. When you hit the statistics arrow, you are able to see a bar graph of how many calories you consumed that day next to your friends'. There is also a profile page where you can change your profile picture as well as add or delete friends.

How we built it

We built the prototype using Figma and attempted to convert it to html/css and build the app with javascript and react frameworks and various food recognition, camera, database apis.

Challenges we ran into

Due to the lack of development experience, we were only able to create a presentable prototype using Figma. We encountered difficulties trying to convert our Figma project into html/css and using different javascript frameworks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact we were able to create a professional looking prototype with an idea that promotes healthier eating, and a healthier lifestyle while being fun and engaging.

What we learned

We learned that there is so much more to creating an app than we expected, and that every feature on an app must have a front end as well as a backend that can accomplish our vision. We spent hours diving into unfamiliar territory as none of us have any app development experience and learned a lot about the app development process.
