Inspiration
The mixture of real-life magic and fantasy to create our card infusion system
What it does
It currently plays out a single battle against an opponent. The player must choose a card and then an elemental infusion to apply. Depending on what is chosen, a different card effect will play out. Up to three cards can be played in succession by the Player before the enemy gets a turn. Some cards' affects may buff or debuff future cards. The player will learn while playing, as each suit has a theme (e.g. Hearts are primarily healing). The player may blunder by hurting themselves or healing their opponent, but their opponent can make mistakes too.
How we built it
We built it using unity, with pixelorama and piskel for the sprites
Challenges we ran into
Some C# modern functionality is unavailable in the current version of Unity. We used Unity 6.0 which changes a lot of features and got stuck several times trying to understand why Unity was behaving in an unexpected way only to find out that certain default behaviour had been changed in 6.0. We were unfamiliar with the UI layout system in Unity, so it took a while to get familiar with it and start building up the UI. Taking part in this event has helped us to learn more about game development workflows so we can be more efficient in future jams.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Whilst the project is small scale, our implementation of the card infusion system was lengthy and we believe it came out quite well
What we learned
We learnt how to use Unity for game development and how to collaborate on a game development project.
What's next for Phoegals Fantastic Fray?
We will in the future add more battles, new card effects and even a boss battle!
