Inspiration
Phishing is a type of cybercrime in which fraudsters scam companies or people to obtain sensitive information. Cybercriminals pose as legitimate companies or organizations to obtain the information from individuals or organizations.
Phishing is one of the most common cyber security threats and has been growing more widespread every year. Tessian research found that in 2021, employees receive about 14 malicious emails. Some industries were attacked very hard, with retail workers receiving on average about 49 harmful emails. Based on an FBI report, businesses and individuals lost about $3.5-billion to cybercriminals in 2019. The most common form of internet crime was phishing, affecting 114,702 victims.
In order to educate individuals, household, and organizations about the danger of phishing and how to avoid or detect phishing attacks, we create a game called "Phishy Adventure". The game is a fun and great way to teach children and adults to learn phishing.
What it does
"Phishy Adventure" is an adventure game of a fish. The fish can be lured to dangerous situations and losing its health if it cannot resist the charm of baits. When the fish eats the bait, a new trivia game page will be opened and players are tested their knowledge about phishing by playing in the trivia game. Through playing different trivia games about phishing, players can gain knowledge about phishing better. The fish can be rewarded by earning stars during its travel.
How we built it
We built the site using HTML, CSS, Trivia Maker, Flowlab
Challenges we ran into
We had challenges to come up with the idea and create games. It was hard to learn to make a new game from scratch for the first time and try to make things work. We also had challenges to fix the bugs and errors of the game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make the new game and publish it the a website.
What we learned
- We learnt to make a game from scratch
- We learnt more about phishing while making the game
- We learnt the importance of detecting phishing to prevent cyber security crime
What's next for Phishy Adventure
In the future, we would like to add more levels to the game and make the game more interesting with different encounters and lessons about cyber security.
