Inspiration

Phishing attacks remain one of the most widespread cybersecurity threats affecting individuals, students, and businesses daily. Many people fall victim to stolen credentials and malicious links simply because they lack immediate awareness or tools to detect sophisticated fraud. We built PhishShield to bridge this gap by offering a proactive, user-friendly defense mechanism

What it does

PhishShield is an anti-phishing protection and security awareness solution. It analyzes URLs, email content, and web interfaces to detect fraudulent links and credential-harvesting pages in real-time, warning users before they interact with malicious content

How we built it

Frontend & UI: HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for an intuitive dashboard and user alerts. Backend & Logic: Python script modules for analyzing web requests, checking URL structures, and detecting threat signatures. Tools & Environment: VS Code, Linux/Kali tools for analyzing attack patterns, and Git for version control.

Challenges we ran into

Accurately detecting new and modified phishing URLs without generating excessive false positives. Creating a seamless, non-intrusive alert system that educates users without disrupting their daily workflow.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Designing a clear, functional prototype that combines threat detection with security literacy. Building a scalable concept that can be expanded into browser extensions or organizational tools

What we learned

Deepened our understanding of web application security, credential harvesting mechanisms, and real-time link analysis. Learned how to integrate security awareness directly into technical tools to help users stay safe online.

What's next for phishsheild

Integrating machine learning models for advanced URL and content pattern recognition. Developing dedicated browser extensions (Chrome/Firefox) and mobile integrations for seamless protection.
