PhishProof is a digital safety website designed to help teens and parents recognize and avoid online threats like phishing scams, unsafe downloads, and deepfake misinformation. The project was inspired by the growing number of people falling victim to these risks and the need for a simple, interactive resource that teaches practical online safety skills. The goal is to make cybersecurity knowledge accessible, actionable, and engaging for a broad audience.
Building PhishProof taught me a lot about web design, content creation, and cybersecurity. I learned how to structure a website that is both user-friendly and professional, how to present complex concepts like phishing detection and password security in a way anyone can understand, and the importance of testing features with real users. I also gained experience balancing educational accuracy with simplicity, ensuring that the site would appeal to both teens and parents.
The site was built using HTML, CSS (Tailwind), and JavaScript, with Cursor assisting in code generation and content organization. I developed a quiz system with 100 multiple-choice questions ranging from easy to expert-level, designed to reinforce learning through interactive practice. Educational content was curated from trusted cybersecurity sources and simplified for clarity. The design is fully responsive, working smoothly on both desktop and mobile devices. Some challenges I faced included making the content approachable yet accurate, designing quizzes that were fun but still informative, and managing time to prioritize core features during the hackathon. Despite these obstacles, PhishProof became a functional, polished tool that combines education, interactivity, and design to help users safely navigate the digital world.
In short, PhishProof is more than just a website: it is a digital literacy hub that empowers users to protect themselves online. By teaching people how to spot phishing attempts, avoid scams, and understand emerging digital risks, the project contributes to a safer and more informed online community. The website name “PhishProof” captures its mission: making the web safer for all.
