Inspiration
To protect general users from internet safety risks. Phishing is extremely common, we wanted to provide something that is as user-friendly as possible so that no one can ever be harmed in the future from this activity.
What it does
It uses an authentication system allowing the user to log in with a pop-up Chrome extension to alert them on real-time phishing attempts being warded off.
How we built it
We built it on Visual code using Dart, flutter, javascript, HTML, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
API limits, as we can only make a certain amount of requests in a given time frame. Obtaining the HIBP API to correctly pull breached information.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Software issues on all of our different machines are being handled. Being able to create a Chrome extension with outdated documentation. And much more.
What we learned
We learned that phishing is one of the most common ways to acquire information about others. We learned about the time taken from websites to give access to their information.
What's next for PhishNet
Implementation of a web server that collects enough user data for more helpful insights.
