Phishing Email Detector

Inspiration

Our inspiration is helping people and protecting everyone online. We wish to be the cyberheroes who watch out for suspicious emails that target everyday people just like us.

What it does

Our chatbot program detects malicious intent in emails, specifically phishing and spam emails.

How we built it

We used Flask, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the chatbot and front-end portion of our code. We built out a Python API to handle text classification and communicate with our frontend. We also used NLTK and Scikit-Learn for machine learning purposes to train the dataset for our API.

What's next for Phishing Email Detector

We'd like to implement automatic detection and learn to adapt to oncoming threats.

In addition to brainstorming and helping outline the project, I worked on the html page, developing and designing them. I also added the CSS for the html.

Joshua Yawn
I worked on developing and training our text classification model on two datasets of spam, phishing, and safe emails. I also built an API with Flask to connect, send requests to, and receive data from our model.

Jovita Chang
I worked on the back-end for Flask and created some of the HTML code which was implemented in our final project. I was team leader and delegated outlining this project as well as the creating the ML model we used.
