Inspiration
Philosophy Auto Chess is a philosophical auto battler inspired by my passion for philosophy, strategy games, and the possibility of using AI to help independent creators build complex interactive experiences.
Most strategy games are built around fantasy, history, or warfare. I wanted to create a game where philosophical ideas themselves become gameplay mechanics.
In Philosophy Auto Chess, players do not simply collect heroes. They recruit philosophers, combine different schools of thought, and build strategic systems based on their ideas. Thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Kant, and Hegel are transformed into unique units with abilities inspired by their actual philosophies.
How I Built It
I built this project with OpenAI Codex as an AI development partner throughout the entire process.
Codex helped me design and implement major parts of the game, including:
- Auto battler combat systems
- Philosopher units and abilities
- Faction and synergy mechanics
- Economy and upgrade systems
- User interface and gameplay flow
- Debugging and iterative improvements
Instead of using AI only for generating code, I used Codex as a collaborative programming partner: discussing system design, testing ideas, finding bugs, and improving the implementation step by step.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was transforming abstract philosophical concepts into clear and enjoyable gameplay mechanics.
Philosophy often deals with complex theories and concepts, while games require intuitive rules and meaningful decisions. I needed to balance philosophical inspiration, strategic depth, and player experience.
Another challenge was developing a relatively complex strategy game as an independent creator. AI assistance allowed me to iterate faster and focus more on creative design.
What I Learned
This project showed me how AI can expand the possibilities of independent creation.
With AI as a development partner, a single creator can now prototype and build interactive experiences that previously required a larger team.
Codex was not only a coding assistant, but a collaborator that helped transform an abstract creative vision into a playable game.
