Inspiration

Inspired from one of our team members, she said her and friends and her expereince awkward moments and difficulty calculating amunally when it comes to splitting the bill.

What it does

We want to create a convenient payment application which enables users to split bills with ease, and instantly transfer each other without hassle.

How we built it

The GUI was built with java and the backend processing was built with python.

Challenges we ran into

Getting python tesseract was difficult initially due to errors and system pathing to get the library working. We also faced image compatibility issues, and the tesseract had difficulty reading certain images.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a image type transformation program, and used more functions in the tesseract library to filter the image and save it at a higher quality.

Furthermore, we managed to create a robust algorithm which can filter the unnecessary data when taking an image of a receipt, keeping the key data which we need for the calculation process.

What we learned

We learned how to handle OCR software and app development in order to the get the entire application running and successful.

What's next for Philoi

We hope to make the program more robust, as well as in future use the in built image to text recognition on mobile devices operating system for a better experience.

We also want to add more functions, such as group scheduled outings inside the application which would allow users to book schedules with friends.
