Inspiration
We wanted to showcase what Philadelphia has to offer given its rich history and diverse culture. Given how abundant and lively the culture is, we want to help new people experience the best of the best that Philadelphia has to offer. This will ensure that they get to see any hidden gems that are curated by the local residents.
What it does
PhillyJawn presents Philadelphia culture in a visually striking way that appeals to the users' experience with concise information and fluid animations.
How we built it
We built it using React with the use of libraries such as Tailwind CSS, GSAP Animation, Fiber Three JS, React Leaflet, and Yelp API.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges that we faced included designing the flow of the website, balancing out the amount of content for the main page and subpages, dealing with API calls, and map plotting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our design philosophy and animations since we feel like we were able to capture the urban and historical aesthetic of the city itself.
What we learned
We learned that it is very hard to design a website that can effectively communicate information to the audience without proper planning. Making sure the whole website flows together is very tough while trying to incorporate new features.
What's next for Philly Jawn
We would like to continue adding more sub-pages to the main topics that we chose while also adding smaller functionality that can further help personalize the user's experience in enjoying Philadelphia as a great city.
