I designed an embedded system that takes light intensity data and ports it into a PIC micro-controller. At the time of acquisition, a poll to a Real Time Clock module is made to read in a time stamp. All this data is fed to a PC where the data is stored into a file. This technology could be used to in situation where light intensity is a factor for performance such as sun tracking photo-voltaic cells.
As seen in the photo above, I attached the photo-resistor to the end of a moving robotic arm. This robotic arm is an example of how data could be gathered remotely with user control over the position of the sensor.
