Our program is designed to mentor Philadelphia youth. We help youth from low-income families with graduating from high school; enter the workforce or post-secondary institutions.
Inspiration: seeing youth we work with gain jobs they applied and seeing youth enter the colleges/universities they applied.
What it does: hardwork, dedication, being empathetic, consistent, caring, considerate and showing "tough love".
How we built it through seed funding and everything mentioned in "What it does".
Challenges we ran into: not getting many of the grants we applied for; some funders and donors are hesitant to give to a pilot program. Some parents/caregivers are reluctant to enroll their children in a semi-pilot program/organization.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: the seed funding we applied for and received. Some donors gave in-kind donations. Donations of equipment was given. We were able to enroll nineteen total participants in a previous program. We have trademark and incorporation applications pending.
What we learned: to keep moving forward. Take the losses as learning lessons, experience. Some friends showed me they were true friends. Applying for funding is a tedious and long process; yet, I've gain great experience in doing so. Networking is key.
What's next for Philadelphia Youth Football Academy: after scaling our 2021-22 results; we will look into what needs to be worked on and rectify those problems. If we're able to start a new site; we'll look into partnering with another school and begin that process. We will continue working on our fundraising efforts; reaching out to new, potential donors and funders.
