Inspiration

The daily lives of college students are shaped by small routines we rarely question, especially the rushed moments of packing their bags before leaving. Mornings often involve quickly gathering essentials while thinking about classes, weather, deadlines, battery life, and everything else happening that day. This can lead to forgotten items, overpacked bags, and unnecessary stress. We wanted to redesign this repeated everyday moment into something calmer, smarter, and more intentional. That idea became Pheww, a personalized digital companion that helps students pack with confidence.

What it does

Pheww is a smart daily prep app that helps students quickly pack their bags with exactly what they need. Using context such as schedules, weather, battery level, time on campus, and personal habits, Pheww creates personalized daily packing checklists and recommendations.

Features include:

  • Customized daily checklist and interactive “bag” based on classes, plans, and routines
  • Context-aware suggestions such as bringing an umbrella for rain or a charger for long days
  • Last-minute alerts for frequently forgotten essentials
  • Dashboard that lets users quickly skim the most important things they need before leaving

Pheww transforms a stressful daily scramble into a smoother, faster, and more frictionless routine.

How we built it

We began by researching college students’ morning routines and needs through surveys and interviews. We asked students what they forget most often, when they realize it, and how it affects their day.

Based on our findings, we created user flows and wireframes in Figma, then designed a mobile interface centered around simplicity and speed. We focused on creating intuitive, intentional interactions and screens, supported by calming visuals that fit naturally into busy morning routines.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was balancing usefulness with simplicity. We wanted the app to feel intelligent and personalized, but not overwhelming or overly complicated. It was easy to add too many features, so we had to constantly remind ourselves to simplify the experience. We also had to design for a routine that only lasts a few minutes each day, meaning every interaction needed to be fast and frictionless.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of transforming a commonly overlooked daily pain point into a meaningful design opportunity. Creating a solution that feels practical, relatable, and emotionally valuable was a rewarding experience. We are also proud of designing a clear and realistic user journey, while conducting user research to support and validate our decisions.

What we learned

We learned that some of the best design opportunities exist in ordinary routines people rarely question. We also found that users do not always need advanced productivity tools with more features. What they often need instead are solutions that reduce friction in the repeated moments of daily life. Through user research, we learned the importance of designing technology that feels helpful, invisible, and human-centered.

What's next for Pheww

We would like to turn Pheww into a fully functional product with live integrations and machine learning personalization. In the future, we hope to introduce features such as habit prediction over time, shared packing lists for group projects, and expanded support for other routines and daily needs. Our long-term vision is for Pheww to become the go-to app for making everyday life feel easier and more intentional.
