Inspiration

Our project, Pharmora, was inspired by the problems pharmacies face in managing medicines, inventory, prescriptions, and patient communication. Manual processes can lead to delays, medication errors, and operational difficulties. We wanted to create a smarter solution that helps pharmacists manage their daily activities more efficiently while supporting safe and timely medication management.

What We Learned

Through this project, we learned how AI, OCR, and automation can be used to solve real-world problems in healthcare. We explored how supplier bills can be scanned to extract medicine details, how stock levels and expiry dates can be monitored, and how patient purchase history can be used to identify possible refill dates. We also learned the importance of pharmacist verification and responsible use of technology in healthcare.

How We Built Our Project

We developed Pharmora, an intelligent pharmacy management system with two main areas of focus: inventory management and patient communication.

For inventory management, pharmacists can upload supplier bills. OCR extracts details such as medicine name, batch number, quantity, MRP, and expiry date. After verification, the confirmed medicines are added to the inventory. The system also provides low-stock alerts, expiry management, manual stock correction, and PharmaGrid, which helps pharmacists locate medicines using predefined row and column positions.

For patient communication, Pharmora stores patient purchase history and uses it to identify possible refill dates. It can send refill reminders through Gmail using n8n automation. The system also supports general health-awareness messages and AI-assisted communication with pharmacist review.

Challenges We Faced

One of the main challenges was planning how different pharmacy activities could work together in one system. We also had to consider the accuracy of OCR-extracted medicine details, the importance of verifying information before updating stock, and the coordination of inventory management with patient communication. Working on these challenges helped us understand the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and careful system design.

Our Goal

Through Pharmora, we aim to reduce manual work, improve pharmacy operations, and support safer and more timely medication management using AI and automation.
