Inspiration
Getting everyone, including managers and coaches, on board with using data analysis to optimise football strategy by implementing visualisation and maximising usability/user experience. We understand Coventry City FC play a possession-based strategy and wanted to focus on this within our solution and see how data analysis can make the first 5 minutes of a game optimal.
What it does
Users can register and log into the webpage to view and compare past match data at which point they can upload a recent data set. As modelled by the 10 recent matches on the current webpage, they can then view key trends within tabs we have scrutinised and optimised to make easily understandable by people with key expertise in the sport, including those with limited tech knowledge. Finally, they view a summary of the data to help make suggestions to optimise strategy in the next game.
How we built it
Feature 1: Unified Data Dashboard Seamlessly import performance data from disparate sources, empowering holistic player analysis and strategic decision-making. (we did this by importing CSVs)
Feature 2: Interactive Insights Engine Unlock dynamic visualisations and hidden capabilities from match data, transforming raw data into actionable intelligence for optimised training and recruitment strategies.
Feature 3: AI-Driven Match Digest Generate concise and insightful match summaries, revealing hidden patterns and accelerating post-match analysis for performance optimisation.
Challenges we ran into
- Whether to focus on player data vs overall team performance, however as the dataset was limited, we decided to integrate comparative analysis based on past matches by focusing on recent matches.
- We ran into issues with displaying graphs and visualising this with colours to stand out but tried our best as our initial focus was within user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We believe our UI will make it extremely easy for people with basic understanding of football to use but for those with expertise in the sport, they will excel in making optimised strategic decisions pre-match, throughout matches and post-match analysis.
What's next for Phantom Hackers
- In the future, we could integrate more player specific data information with more data given. We could also do this by adding another feature to analyse body part orientations which will also contribute to the player recruitment process.
