Inspiration: We were inspired by how much critical course advice and student struggle lives scattered across Reddit and syllabi, leaving students unprepared for what will actually be hard. What it does: Phantasm turns a syllabus and course name into a living study system by surfacing common pain points, generating weekly plans, and syncing actionable tasks into Opennote. How we built it: We used Gemini to parse syllabi and generate study content, Unwrap to extract insights from Reddit discussions, and Opennote to manage tasks, notes, and learning context. Challenges we ran into: The hardest parts were mapping noisy social data to real course topics and designing automation that helped without overwhelming students. Accomplishments that we’re proud of: We built an end-to-end tool that transforms passive course information into proactive, structured learning support. What we learned: We learned that students benefit most when educational tools reduce uncertainty and decision-making rather than just adding reminders. What’s next for Phantasm: We plan to expand to more data sources, add instructor-facing insights, and further personalize learning plans.
