Inspiration

After 2 years of Covid-19 and the associated restrictions, many people want to travel again. To make traveling easier for pet owners, Petsy offers the possibility to lend their pet. On the other hand, there are people who are lonely under the restrictions of the pandemic and would like to take care of an animal, Petsy offers the possibility to offer him/herself as a pet sitter.

What it does

For pet lovers who want to rent a pet or who want their pets in safe hands during vacation, Petsy is the pet sharing online community offering reliable flexible & affordable pet care possibilities, unlike expensive and overbooked pet hotels our product is more human and pet friendly.

How we built it

For the eCommerce processes such as customer data and products, we relied on Commercetools and integrated SimplyBook.me for booking pets and sitters on a day and an hour basis. The content was created in Storyblok and the images were integrated via Cloudinary. The frontend is based on Vue.js, which is delivered via Netlify (Commercetools) and Heroku (Storyblok).

Challenges we ran into

  • We started without any prior knowledge of MACH tools and had to familiarize ourselves with the tools first
  • We spent almost a week launching Storyblok and Commercetools in Vue Storefront Enterprise and finally received notice that they were pulling out of the MACHathon and we should no longer use their product. SInce there is no other all in one frontend integration, we had to use separate vue boilerplates provided by storyblok and commercetools

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created an MVP of Petsy (pet sharing community) based on MACH principles without prior knowledge of MACH tools

What we learned

  • Using PaaS like Netlify and Heroku makes life very easy
  • Vue.js is very beginner friendly and intuitive
  • Not everything that is promised is as easy as it seems

What's next for Petsy - Holiday keeper - for pets

We want to further investigate the composable approach and try to implement it in our daily business
