Inspiration

Pet care happens in small moments: a meal, a medication, a change in mood, a vet visit. The details often end up scattered across paper records, messages, photos and memory. Petsights brings those moments together so owners can understand their pet's history and arrive at the next vet visit with a clearer story.

What it does

Petsights is a native iOS pet-care app that brings daily routines, health records, documents and shared care into one place.

  • A timeline for every pet: record meals, moods, symptoms, medications, activity and grooming, alongside vaccinations, deworming and vet visits.
  • Health at a glance: follow weight and other recorded measurements, with species-aware cards and detailed history.
  • Reminders that support everyday care: keep track of recurring routines and upcoming treatments.
  • Documents without the paper chase: keep vaccination records, test results and other important files with the pet they belong to.
  • AI-assisted imports: turn photos of vaccination records, medication information and receipts into entries that owners can review before saving.
  • An assistant with context: ask questions using the pet's profile and recorded history, rather than starting every conversation from scratch. AI output is informational and does not replace veterinary advice.
  • Shared care: give co-owners access and choose which information to include in a public pet-health link.
  • Vet-ready summaries and expenses: organize the information needed for a consultation and keep track of care costs.

How we built it

The main app is built in Swift and SwiftUI. Supabase provides the shared database, authentication, document storage and server-side functions. A Next.js and TypeScript website supports the public product site and configurable pet-sharing pages.

RevenueCat powers premium access through the Petsights Pro subscription. The app connects purchases to the signed-in account, checks its premium entitlement, and handles purchases and restores. The free plan lets an owner start with one pet, daily logging, reminders and document storage. Pro adds multiple pets, co-ownership, AI features, expanded storage, expenses and richer sharing and history tools.

The AI workflows extract structured information from documents and use recorded pet history as context. Keeping a review step in import flows helps owners correct extracted details before they become part of the record.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was making a broad care history feel simple. Vaccinations, weight readings, documents and daily routines have different structures, but owners need to find them together. Species-aware summaries, focused entry forms and a unified timeline help connect those details.

Other important engineering challenges included reliable sign-in and account-linked subscriptions, shared ownership and configurable public access, localized dates and units, and turning imperfect document photos into useful, reviewable records.

Accomplishments we're proud of

Petsights connects quick everyday logging with the moments when a complete history matters. Owners can keep a small observation today and retrieve it alongside the relevant document, treatment or vet visit later. Native interactions, a quick-log widget and the iOS share extension bring that workflow closer to where people already use their phone.

We're also proud of making core care tracking available for free while reserving more demanding features for a subscription that supports continued development, storage and AI processing.

What we learned

A pet-care app becomes valuable through continuity: logging must be easy enough to repeat, records must be easy to retrieve, and shared information must remain understandable. AI is most useful here when it reduces repetitive entry and helps people navigate their own records while keeping the owner in control.

What's next for Petsights

Continue refining the daily logging and import experience, improve the clarity of care summaries, and learn from real use by pet owners. The focus is a dependable companion that becomes more useful as each pet's history grows.
