Inspiration

The lack of awareness about the responsibilities of pet ownership among families, coupled with insufficient education for younger generations, has led to a concerning trend of pets being surrendered to shelters, abandoned, or tragically euthanized. Recognizing this gap in knowledge, our team is committed to developing an accessible and user-friendly app aimed at enhancing pet literacy rates among young individuals. By providing clear guidance on pet care through intuitive navigation and engaging content, we aim to empower future pet owners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to ensure the well-being of their animal companions. Through this proactive approach, we aspire to foster a culture of responsible pet ownership, ultimately reducing the number of pets facing uncertain fates and promoting happier, healthier relationships between humans and their furry friends.

How we built it

We built Pets Life using Code.org and Vanilla Javascript. Using Procreate and CapCut, we made our visuals by hand.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge our team faced was finding an issue that was meaningful to us, and had not already been addressed previously by others. We also had to consider whether or not the problem could be addressed through an app. The solution also had to be created in an effective way, that targets the issue directly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of ourselves for developing an app together for the first time and it all coming together in the end. Although it was difficult at times, we did manage to pull through and come out will an amazing product.

What we learned

We learned that making a timeline is very important since it kept us on track since we were able to check if we were going to be ready for the deadline with our best product.

What's next for Pets Life

The next step for Pets Life is to make the game more interactive and include more tasks that vary daily. We also want to make the pets grow, get sick, get dirty, and be tired just like real pets do to better simulate what having that pet would be like.
