Inspiration
School pride. Community. Petr drops. As proud Anteaters, we wanted to express our school pride and create something related to our UCI culture -Zot ' Zot! Naturally we thought of petr drops. Students like to show them off, run for them, and sometimes we cry. With petr marketplace, like ******** marketplace, someone's trash may be someone's else's treasure. Many students fail to collect petrs they want while collecting a multitude of petr's they don't value highly. With petr marketplace, students may exchange such petrs (or other services/valuables) and everybody can be happy! :D
What it does
Students may create an account, select petrs they have, petrs they want, and exchange contacts with other community members.
How we built it
We built it through python (Flask), html, javascript, and css.
Challenges we ran into
For many of us, this was our first Hackathon and as such we didn't have much experience. We didn't know anything about development, or planning the scope of our project, nor did we have any knowledge about databases. We met each other at the hackathon's team formation event. We didn't know each other --we didn't even know how to use github! Some of us had a on average 50 minute commute to the venue. We failed to use ngrok, even our mentor, the lengedary awesome Ryan Yang (our icon), couldn't help us get it running.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our team synergy. Everybody was constantly contributing to the project --until the end where the lack of sleep hit us like a train. We learns how to use flask and expanded our skills in javascript and css. Our website looks fabulous!!! And it's done!
What we learned
We learned the value of friendship --but more importantly sleep. We also learned how important it is to set reasonable skills, like not a 8:00 A.M meet up. We learned to be ambitious, dream big, and not fear failure. With that comes the satisfaction of the realization of our product. We learned about our limits --that we have none! Especially Edwin Ma! Mans is a powerhouse (like a mitochondria)!
What's next for Petr Marketplace
Yu-gi-oh. a collectible trading card game is a possibility. We want it to look better. For the community to be able to communicate with more through more point of contacts (Perhaps, like embedding a direct messaging system in the website). Also rankings and statistics about the supply and demand of certain petrs, perhaps over time. We also want to add photo verification to ensure people have the petr's they say they do.
