Inspiration

We noticed that pet owners often struggle to track subtle behavioral changes in their animals across different platforms. We wanted to create a centralized hub that uses machine learning to make pet care more proactive rather than reactive within the Bee environment.

What it does

PetPulse monitors pet health by analyzing behavioral data and user-reported symptoms. It uses natural language processing to understand owner notes and provides actionable advice for better pet care. The system integrates seamlessly with Bee to ensure a smooth developer and user experience.

How we built it

We developed the core logic using Python and deployed it via AWS Lambda for scalable processing. We used boto3 to interface with AWS services and integrated Amazon Comprehend for sentiment and entity analysis. The interface was built specifically for the Bee surface to ensure compatibility with the track.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was mapping the specific data structures of the Bee track to our pet care logic. We also struggled with refining the Amazon Comprehend queries to accurately identify pet-related medical symptoms versus general activity in user notes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully implementing a serverless architecture that handles complex pet care data efficiently. It is rewarding to see PetPulse providing real-time insights directly on the Bee surface using the power of the AWS stack.

What we learned

We learned a lot about how to optimize Python functions for low-latency execution within AWS Lambda. We also gained deep experience in how to leverage Amazon Comprehend to extract meaningful value from unstructured pet-care narratives.

What's next for PetPulse

We plan to expand our analysis capabilities to include predictive health modeling using historical data. We also hope to create more integration points for other developers on the Bee track to extend the pet ecosystem.
