Worldwide, hundreds of thousands of pets are abandoned daily. This problem is even more severe in some countries, like Singapore, which saw a 200% increase in pet abandonment cases in 2023. Several factors may have contributed to this, including inflation, rising pet care costs, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, many people acquired pets to combat loneliness or because they had more free time. However, as life returned to normal, they realized they couldn't care for their pets. In summary, people underestimated the responsibilities of pet ownership.

How does Petpals aim to tackle this? We believe that teaching responsibility and planning starts early. Therefore, we propose an educational game to raise children's awareness of pet care. This will help them make informed decisions before asking their parents for a pet. We will use gamification elements like random spinners, sound effects, animations, and graphics to make the game fun and engaging for kids.

The game prototype was developed using Unity. We encountered challenges with the drag-and-drop feature, specifically resolving persistent bugs. While the prototype effectively demonstrates the core gameplay concept, further research is required to identify the most effective question types for maximizing impact.
