PetPal AI - Conversational Pet Assistant

🐶 Inspiration

I've always been a pet lover, and together with my wife, we share our lives with two very special dogs: Bruno and Lucy. They are part of the family, and like many pet owners, we often find ourselves with scattered notes, photos, spreadsheets, and physical documents that track their lives.

Whether it’s remembering their last vet visit, tracking how much they weighed 3 months ago, or just trying to find that cute photo from their first swim—everything gets lost or forgotten when it's most needed.

That’s where the idea of PetPal AI was born.
A friendly, intelligent assistant that remembers everything about your pet and allows you to interact with it just like a conversation—with voice, emotion, and context.

What it does

PetPal AI is a conversational memory assistant for your pet.

It allows pet owners to:

Log events (weight, moods, vet visits, behavior, etc.)
Ask natural questions like:
“How old was Bruno when he got his first vaccine?”
“What was Lucy eating in February?”
Receive personalized responses and summaries
Store and recall photo memories (in progress)
Talk with the AI via voice (powered by ElevenLabs)
Access Premium features like multiple pets, voice, memory recall, and advanced AI insights

How we built it

The project was built with:

Bolt.new – for development and AI-powered generation
Supabase – for authentication and pet data storage
OpenAI GPT-4 – for natural language understanding and memory structuring
ElevenLabs – for voice output
RevenueCat – for subscription/paywall integration
Netlify – for deployment
Entri + IONOS – for the custom domain: https://pet-pal.site
React, TailwindCSS, Zustand, Framer Motion – for frontend and state management

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was that I discovered the hackathon less than 3 days ago, and have only been able to dedicate under 24 hours of focused work.

It would have been amazing to have a full week or more to integrate every planned feature, polish the voice interactions, and refine the storage experience—but I’m proud of what came together.

Even under such a tight deadline, I was able to build a working version of PetPal AI with:

Two demo modes (Free and Premium)
Full account management and feature comparison
Functional AI assistant with memory
Voice integration
A clean and responsive UI

All of this was possible thanks to the amazing tools and integrations provided through the hackathon.

What we learned

This experience helped me:

Learn about tools and integrations I had never used before
Understand how to launch a functional AI product extremely fast
Push the boundaries of conversational UI for everyday use cases
See how AI can enhance relationships, even those we have with our pets

Extend and deepen the conversational memory
Integrate photo tagging + visual recognition of pets
Support cloud image storage or open-source self-hosted storage
Explore low-cost continuous voice interactions
Open-source parts of the stack to build a pet-focused AI infrastructure
Ultimately, build the most emotional, useful, and human pet assistant on the market
