Inspiration
After experiencing the headache that comes with finding the right breed/type of pet to adopt, I wanted to create an easy pet matcher to help others. Not only does this help users get an idea of what type of pet to look for, but it also equips them with general knowledge on how to care for them.
What it does
Matches the user with a pet and provides a general "pet care guide"
How we built it
I hand-coded all of this with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I used chat-gpt to help explain code to me and help me learn but I did not copy or have it write any code for me.
Challenges we ran into
Learning JavaScript. I have 'learned' JavaScript before, but I had never actually used it in a project. Also, this was my first time really using media queries, so I had to learn that, too.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I learned a lot about JavaScript and now I feel like I understand how to properly utilize objects to display things on a website. I also improved my CSS skills and found I was more comfortable with styling than I was in the past.
What we learned
Lots of JS syntax
What's next for PetPal
I would like to expand the improve the database for the pets and pet scoring logic, but I would probably have to learn a lot more about backend and data storage to do this.
