Inspiration
We have Instagram, we have Telegram — platforms where people get all the attention. But what about pets? PetoGram is a pet-centric social media platform designed to give all the attention to pets and animals. It’s a space where users can share their pets' lives, connect with other pet lovers, and even receive insights from vets who might notice issues in shared posts.
What it does
Allows users to post photos/videos of their pets. Vets can comment on posts if they notice signs of health issues. Facilitates pet adoption by enabling users to post about pets up for adoption. Enables event organization around pets and adoption drives. Offers appointment booking with vets directly within the app. Users can follow each other, chat, and have pet-focused discussions via messaging. It’s essentially a full-featured pet-focused social media platform.
How we built it
Platform: Built initially using Bolt for the core logic and prompt-based UI/UX generation. Custom Changes: Minor tweaks were made using Cursor and by importing Bolt code from GitHub. UI: Leveraged 21st.dev for sleek and responsive UI components. Backend: Used Supabase for database and backend services. Prompting: Enhanced prompts on Bolt played a key role in refining user flows and messaging.
Challenges we ran into
Codebase overloading slowed down the app significantly. We had to re-architect the system for better performance and efficiency. Implementing real-time responses (especially for vet feedback and chat) was tough and resource-intensive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully created a unique, pet-focused social media platform. Integrated a feedback system where vets can directly engage with posts. Built a foundation that could scale with adoption systems, events, appointments, and more.
What we learned
Proper planning is non-negotiable. Starting without structure causes major slowdowns later. Prompt engineering is powerful — when done right, it reduces coding time and improves clarity. We also learned the importance of performance tuning and the tradeoffs between speed and feature richness.
What's next for PetoGram
Expand user base to reach more pet lovers, shelters, and vets. Launch full-scale pet adoption events through the app. Improve the real-time vet alert system for faster pet health responses. Scale the appointment system with local vet clinics and hospitals. Introduce AI-based pet health analysis from media posts. Build partnerships with NGOs, shelters, and pet product brands.
