I often see people on social media, looking for foster homes for some needy animals but are limited to the number of people they know. So to counter that, we thought of making a platform where anyone who wants to foster an animal can volunteer without having the hassle of going to multiple foster homes.
PetLook efficiently connects families to multiple foster homes anywhere. Our project's algorithm helps choose the best-fit needy animal for a foster home based on the information they provide while signing up, like the budget they can spend on the pet or the number of hours they can dedicate towards taking care of the pet. This helps in finding the best home that suits the animal.
While signing up, the user is asked a number of questions to build their profile and is prompted to complete a filter selection to give parameters for algorithm input. The algorithm will then follow the hierarchal priorities to calculate and compare with each animal entity on the website. The list will show up from best fit to least fit.
Implementing the algorithm and finding a mathematical way to accomplish the algorithm was a challenge for us.
We were able to figure out an efficient way of setting the priorities for choosing a pet and made an interactive UI for a really comfortable user experience.
Learned a lot of technical concepts while building the website.
