PetifyNow- A Platform which is for Pets.

Inspiration

The idea for PetifyNow began with a simple but powerful realization: pets have personalities, emotions, and social needs—just like us. Yet most platforms focus solely on their owners. What if pets had their own space to connect, thrive, and be cared for?

What started as a playful concept around pet matchmaking quickly evolved into something bigger: a comprehensive ecosystem that includes emergency telemedicine, social features, and wellness tools—all designed to support every aspect of a pet’s life.

As passionate pet lovers, we saw a clear gap: there was no single platform that brought together both healthcare and community for pets. So, we built one.

What it does

PetifyNow is a full-featured, pet-first platform built for modern pet parents and their furry, feathered, or scaled companions. Our Phase 1 MVP delivers essential tools to support pet care, connection, and community—all in one place.

Phase 1 MVP Features:

🐶 Pet Dating – Swipe-based matchmaking with smart compatibility scoring to help pets find new friends (or more!)
🆘 Telemedicine – Instant access to real, verified veterinarians for emergency support when you need it most
📷 Pet Posts – A social feed to share photos, stories, and everyday moments with fellow pet lovers
🩺 Health Tracker – Keep track of vaccinations, medications, vet visits, and wellness reminders
🏥 Pet Care Directory – GPS-enabled search for nearby vets, groomers, trainers, and other essential services
🐾 Adoption Listings – A community-driven platform to help pets in need find their forever homes

How we built it

Frontend: Built using Next.js + Tailwind CSS for responsive, pet-friendly UI
Backend: PostgreSQL powered by Supabase with Row Level Security and custom policies
Storage: Supabase Storage for secure handling of images and medical documents
Authentication: OTP/email login powered by Supabase Auth
Matchmaking & Notifications: Future-ready logic designed to run on Edge Functions
Telemedicine: Setup for real-time chat (video support planned in Phase 2)

We used a modular structure to support future scalability and GraphQL-based expansion.

Challenges we ran into

Building PetifyNow came with its share of unique technical and design hurdles. Some of the key challenges we tackled:

🐾 Flexible Data Modeling – Designing a secure, scalable schema to support multi-pet households, matchmaking preferences, and real-time health tracking
🔐 Security & Access Control – Implementing row-level security (RLS) and encrypted storage to protect sensitive data, informed by past privacy concerns
🧠 Smart Matchmaking Logic – Creating logic to handle multiple pets per user, toggle participation in dating/adoption, and ensure compatibility scoring
🎯 UX for Dual Purposes – Balancing a playful social experience with the seriousness of medical data, tele-vet consultations, and adoption processes
🛠️ Content Moderation & Safety – Building systems to moderate user-generated content (posts, profiles, and listings) without disrupting community engagement
🧩 Modular Backend Design – Keeping the MVP lightweight while architecting for future features and integrations

What we learned
