Inspiration
I wanted a more personal way to keep a pet close during an ordinary day. A static photo is lovely, but a little scene that changes from morning to night can make each glance at your phone feel like a new moment together.
What it does
Petite Hakorium turns a pet photo into a miniature world on the iPhone Home Screen.
- Lives on your Home Screen: Your pet stays close to you in a cozy, animated-style miniature box.
- Adapts to your day: The widget dynamically shifts from morning light to evening ambiance, matching your daily routine.
- Goes on little journeys: Your pet sets off on adorable travels, exploring seasonal scenes and dreamlike destinations for you.
You can also revisit created moments in the gallery and unlock new worlds.
How I built it
The app uses React Native and Expo for the iPhone experience. Firebase supports sign-in and stores pet and moment data. The RevenueCat SDK powers the in-app subscription flow and checks Premium access. An iPhone Home Screen widget displays the resulting scenes.
Challenges and what I learned
The central design challenge was making generated scenes feel personal while keeping them clear at widget size. The experience also had to make sense across onboarding, image creation, the gallery, and the Home Screen. Building it reinforced how much small details matter when an app is meant to be enjoyed through quick glances throughout the day.
Try it
The published iPhone app is available on the App Store. Eligible new users can use the three-day Premium free trial to explore image creation and the widget.
