Inspiration
My 6 year old and I came up with an idea to build a simple app to track his reading and chores over the summer break.
What it does
PetGrow lets kids log their activities like reading a book, walking outside, and cleaning their room for points that increase the happiness level of a virtual pet. Once a level is crossed, the pet transforms into a bigger animal. The app aims to incentivize good habits and behaviours in kids aged 5-9 years.
How we built it
I used Wispr Flow to transcribe my 6 year old son's voice to a prompt. Bolt did the rest!
Challenges we ran into
We had to figure out what to build (a fun app), what kind of tasks it will log (when I read a book), and how it will gamify the experience (my pet will grow)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built and deployed an app in an hour that is fun and very usable
What we learned
The importance of accurate prompting and not getting distracted
What's next for PetGrow
We could add more tasks, include a mood board, and integrate with SupaBase for longer term storage and a parent dashboard.
