Inspiration

I'd had this idea in my head for a while: making body and health tracking more visual and actually fun to use.

I built the first version of Body Damage as a web app earlier this year. People liked it, but almost everyone asked the same question: "Is there an app?" A body map belongs in your pocket, not in a browser tab. When RevenueCat Shipaton 2026 came up, it felt like the perfect push to finally build it.

What it does

Body Damage is basically a health tracking app.

Instead of taking a clinical or medical approach, it focuses on the visual and fun side. You create a body map and place pins directly on the body to keep track of anything that's happened.

Surgeries, injuries, medical conditions, tattoos, mosquito bites... whatever you want. You can create body maps for yourself, your family members and even your pets, and share them publicly or keep them private.

The apps also introduce something I'm quite happy with: the ad pin. A body owner can place one special pin on their body. When a visitor taps it and watches a short ad, both of them earn an extra pin. Ads become a little gift between people instead of an interruption.

How I built it

I built native iOS and Android apps from scratch during the Shipaton window. Not wrappers, real native apps: SwiftUI on iOS, Jetpack Compose on Android, with a small backend behind them.

RevenueCat is at the center of the whole thing. It handles the Premium subscription on both stores, powers the ad pin rewards through Virtual Currency, and runs our web-to-app sales through Funnels with Stripe. Rewarded ads run on Unity LevelPlay.

The web app I already had became a nice bonus: the same account and the same Premium work on web, iOS and Android, no matter where you subscribed.

I built everything with Claude Code, while I made the product decisions and tested every flow on real devices.

Challenges I ran into

Two apps at once. Keeping iOS and Android feeling identical while each uses its own UI toolkit took real discipline. The web app served as the reference for both.

Rewarded ads done right. I wanted the ad pin to be impossible to cheat, so every reward is verified on the server before anyone gets a pin. Making that play nicely with people signing out and switching accounts took a few tries.

Store review timing. Getting two apps approved inside the window, with real purchases and ads in them, was its own little project.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Both apps are live on the App Store and Google Play, built from zero within the Shipaton window.

I'm also proud of the ad pin. It turns advertising into something people actually want to tap, and it works end to end.

And once again, I actually shipped it. Twice this time.

What I learned

RevenueCat is a lot more than a subscription wrapper. Subscriptions, Virtual Currency and Funnels together let me build a real multi-platform business without writing my own billing.

I also learned that shipping two native apps in parallel is very doable when there's one clear reference to follow and one backend to trust.

What's next for Body Damage iOS & Android

  • More ways to earn and spend pins, so the ad pin becomes a real loop between body owners and visitors.
  • More features for Premium.
  • Growing the web funnel with paid campaigns.
