Meet Maria, a dedicated community leader in the Bronx and passionate environmentalist. In 2022, she envisioned a vibrant community garden with Project Petals, a place where friends and family could gather, grow fresh produce, and foster a sense of community.
Maria understood the power of urban gardening. It's sustainable, rewarding, and reduces her carbon footprint. She was determined to increase food security for her family and make a positive environmental impact.
Despite her determination, unpredictable weather patterns posed a challenge. Keeping plants thriving became a struggle. Maria needs a solution to keep her garden alive. That’s when she was introduced to Petal Pals.
Our Mission Petal Pals aims to improve the environment in under-resourced communities disproportionately impacted by climate change by leveraging technology to track environmental issues in urban green spaces. Guided by a vision of unity and growth, our mission is to drive impactful change and ensure all individuals in BIPOC communities have access to the beauty of nature and the nourishment it provides.
By partnering with Farm Beets and installing sensor technology, Maria can track temperature and receive alerts for extreme conditions. Updates flow to our website, altering community members to gardens in need.
As our software advances, we’ll monitor humidity, sunlight exposure, and offer watering recommendations based on real-time data. Maria can set personalized watering schedules from our predictions and keep her plants healthy.
Petal Pals helps Maria build a plant database to track progress and leverage data to make climate-informed decisions. Petal Pals empowers users with actionable insights and recommendations to optimize their green space. Our dashboard offers a user-friendly design with easy-to-understand language. From reading gardening tips to sharing captivating photos of their garden’s progress, our community members will be celebrated and recognized for their valuable contributions.
With a data-driven approach and community website, the community garden will become a hub of activity, drawing friends and family together and providing a source of fresh, nutritious food for all. In our mission to create impactful change, Petal Pals is actively seeking partnerships with local schools and universities to increase awareness and advocate for the transformation these communities deserve. Through sharing information and resources, Petal Pals breathes life into every neighborhood that is underserved in urban environments.
