Inspiration
My inspiration for this project comes from the fact that pets are treated like family. Like humans, they can suffer injuries, experience pain, and sometimes require urgent medical attention, even when their condition doesn't appear to be serious.
Thinking of this, I developed this project to make sure that pets can receive the care they need in a way that is both effective and accessible.
What it does
This project is used as a volunteer dispatch service designed to connect pets in a state of emergency with available volunteers. Its goal is to make sure that pets can receive emergency care as soon as possible and be promptly transported to the nearest veterinarian for treatment.
How we built it
I built this platform using C# as the main backend language, and I used HTML and JS for frontend functionality and Bootstrap and CSS for styling. I have also used SQLite for database storage which is local and will have to be changed for production. The platforms that I have used are Visual Studio 2026 Community and Visual Studio Code.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge that I ran into was the fact that most of the really nice features like voice communication with the volunteers and the users had to be simulated as the functionality couldn't be implemented very well on a prototype application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of making my application work for all users and essentially being a completed MVP of my vision for this application.
What we learned
I learned that with the technologies today, it is possible to create a minimum viable product in some time with the right work ethic and effort. Along with this, if creativity and thinking about problems at the moment in the world are combined, great things can happen.
What's next for PetAid
The next step for PetAid is to incorporate SignalR for real-time communication within the platform along with expanding the database to Firebase, SQL Server on a hosting platform, AWS databases, etc. for maximum functionality for all users.
