Inspiration

Satistics show that having a pet requires living in a spacious apartment to ensure good mental and physical health for the pet. However, this requirement is not always easily fulfilled especially in crowded cities like Tokyo. Nevertheless, this does not mean to give up on the psychological benefits of owning a pet. That's why we introduce Pet's Home where the virtual pet's spacious home integrates with yours. Not only giving the pet the room they deserve, but also extending yours making it bigger.

What it does

You can adjust the lighting to better integrate with your environment, play fetch with your pet, and pet it to which the pet excitingly reacts giving you all the stress relieving psychological benefits of actually owning a pet.

How we built it

This Mixed Reality Application was built using Unity's game engine utilizing the Mixed Reality Utility Kit (MRUK) for scene understanding to position all the virtual elements appropriately and Meta's Interaction SDK for the hand tracking and interactions.

Challenges we ran into

We found out the hard way that MRUK is not very stable on certain Unity versions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have been able to bring this idea to life and prove the concept of having a virtual pet in limited living spaces.

What we learned

We learned how to use MRUK and the interaction SDK appropriately.

What's next for Pet's Home

As next steps, the Pet's AI will be extended to fetch the ball and bring it back. Pet selection and Virtual environment customizations will also be added.
