Inspiration
Goal of the project is to bring more joy and humor into people’s lives. And let’s be honest—pets already do that just by existing. Their chaotic energy, silent stares, and judgmental tail flicks deserve to be understood… or at least hilariously misinterpreted.
What it does
Pet Mood Translator is a web application that pretends (with the help of AI) to know what your pet is thinking—and then tells you. Users upload a photo of their pet, hit the "Translate My Pet’s Thoughts!" button, and let the app work its magic. Within moments, you’re served a personalized, emotionally loaded, possibly unfiltered (but kids friendly), definitely dramatic summary of what your pet “thinks” about life, food and you. You can even download your pet’s sassy inner monologue to share online—because sharing is caring.
How we built it
I typed some things into Bolt. Bolt did… things back. Then I typed more specific things. And Bolt, bless its speedy little circuits, started making magic happen. The app was built with Bolt’s no-fuss workflow tools, letting me go from “wouldn’t it be funny if…” to “look what I made!” in record time.
I have built this application FULLY with Bolt.New! It uses Gemini API (gemini-2.0-flash-exp) to analyze pet photos and generate pet thoughts. Supabase for edge functions. And Netlify to deploy the application.
Challenges we ran into
Sometimes the things Bolt made were not the things I told it to make. There were… conversations. We worked it out. Bolt and I are closer now. It’s a journey.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built a fully functional (and totally ridiculous) Pet Mood Translator using Bolt—from scratch to sassy output. I'm proud of how I brought a quirky idea to life quickly, combining humor, user interaction, and a bit of absurdity to make something people can actually laugh at while secretly wondering if their cat really is judging them.
What we learned
I learned that giving clear instructions to AI is an art form—and sometimes a guessing game involving snacks and crossed fingers. I also learned that even a silly idea can turn into something delightful with the right tools (hi, Bolt) and a little persistence.
What's next for Pet Mood Translator
Adding a voiceover would be fun. Maybe.
