Inspiration

Many dogs end up in shelters because the breed did not fit the home. Most breed sites are built to sell puppies. We wanted the honest version: help people choose a dog that fits their life, then point them to the dogs already waiting for a home.

What it does

  • Match: seven questions about your home, your week, your experience and who lives with you. Pet Breed Hub weighs them against the ratings of 96 breeds and returns five that fit, each with a plain "why", including where the fit is weak.
  • Breeds: every guide covers the hard parts as well as the lovely parts: twelve ratings, temperament, day to day care, "a good fit for" and "think twice if". Fifteen lists (family dogs, apartment dogs, first dog and more) are built from the ratings, not opinion.
  • Adopt: real dogs listed by shelters and rescues across 16 areas in the United States, the UK, Europe and Asia, filtered by age, size and sex. Every button goes straight to the rescue's own page. Nothing is sold and no one pays to be listed.
  • Saved and compare: keep a shortlist and compare breeds side by side.

Social good

Adoption first. The app never sells or promotes breeders, and it sends people to the dogs already waiting in their own area. A better match before adoption means fewer dogs returned to shelters.

How it makes money

  • The quiz, every breed guide, the adoption list and three saves are free and stay free.
  • Pet Breed Hub Plus is one purchase ($4.99, non-consumable, plus entitlement). It opens unlimited saves, side by side compare of up to three breeds, and the reasoning behind every match.
  • The purchase sheet is built from the current RevenueCat offering; purchase, restore and entitlement checks all run through the RevenueCat SDK. It opens only when you reach for a Plus feature: no launch modal, no countdown, no nag.

How we built it

Capacitor 8, Vue 3 and TypeScript with the RevenueCat Capacitor SDK. The breed library ships inside the app and works offline. The only thing fetched is the adoption list, from petbreedhub.com, fed by a scheduled shelter data pipeline built on Apify. No account, no analytics.

Challenges

Shelter data comes in every shape and language. Normalising it into one clean list and keeping it fresh took most of the work.

What's next

More countries and more species in Adopt, and an alert when a dog matching your quiz is listed near you.
