Inspiration
PestiCare is a simple and user-friendly web application designed to help farmers and students understand common crop pests and learn basic prevention methods. The project focuses on creating awareness by presenting pest information in a clean, structured, and easy-to-read format.
Built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the website provides pest descriptions, symptoms, and recommended control steps in a beginner-friendly interface. The aim of PestiCare is to make pest-related knowledge more accessible so that users can identify early warning signs and protect crops effectively.
This project was created as a quick hackathon prototype to showcase practical frontend development, clean UI design, and a problem-focused solution for the agricultural community.
What it does
PestiCare provides users with essential information about common crop pests in a simple and accessible format. Users can:
View pest names and images
Understand symptoms and signs of infestation
Learn basic prevention and control methods
Navigate easily through a clean and responsive interface
It acts as a quick awareness tool for farmers, students, and anyone interested in basic plant protection.
How we built it
We built PestiCare using:
HTML for structure
CSS for layout, styling, and clean UI
JavaScript for interactivity and content display
The project follows a modular card-based design where each pest has its own section. The UI is kept minimal and mobile-friendly so that anyone can access it easily. We focused on simplicity to keep it beginner-friendly while still being useful and informative.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges included:
Selecting the right amount of pest information without making the UI cluttered
Designing a layout that is simple yet visually clean
Making sure the content is beginner-friendly and easy to understand
Managing time effectively while creating the prototype during the hackathon window
Despite these challenges, we were able to deliver a functional and clean web app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that:
We created a complete working prototype in a short time
The UI is simple, clean, and easy to navigate
The project addresses a real-world agricultural problem
We used only basic web technologies yet built something meaningful
It can genuinely help users understand pests and prevent crop damage
What we learned
Through this project, we learned:
How to convert an idea into a working prototype quickly
How to design clear and user-friendly UI for information-heavy content
How to manage time and prioritize essential features
How HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be used to create purposeful, real-world tools
The importance of addressing practical problems instead of just building random projects
What's next for PestiCare — Smart Pest Awareness & Guidance Web App
In the future, PestiCare can be expanded with:
A full pest database with more detailed information
Search and filter functionality
Machine-learning powered image-based pest identification
Multi-language support for farmers in rural areas
A mobile app version
Offline mode for areas with low internet connectivity
Our goal is to transform PestiCare from a simple awareness tool into a powerful crop-protection assistant.
